Simm’s Hotel plans to keep the building for the long term. As a result, the environment and resources are part of its strategic planning.

Clear Priorities

In 2025, Simm’s Hotel conducted an initial materiality analysis to assess which environmental issues are particularly important to them. The issues ranked highest were water, energy, and greenhouse gas emissions; the impacts of climate change; and resources and waste.

Building Knowledge and Data

Strategic decisions require reliable data. Simm’s Hotel therefore voluntarily collects its sustainability data in accordance with the European VSME standard, starting in 2025 at four pilot locations. To this end, employees received targeted training, such as a CSRD course at ARS and a course on calculating environmental data at BOKU.

From the Basics to Strategy

Based on the analysis and the data, Simm’s Hotel is developing its sustainability strategy. In January 2026, the areas of focus were defined, including energy, renovation, climate change adaptation, and mobility. The strategic work is tailored specifically to these areas of focus and business segments.

Energy

The Simm’s Hotel gets its electricity from renewable energy sources. In addition, the hotel generates part of its electricity needs itself using solar panels. The consumption data collected shows where investments in efficiency are worthwhil

Buildings and Summer Heat Protection

Summers are getting hotter. That’s why we take a targeted approach to sun protection. At Simm’s Hotel, we use the rooms’ sun protection and blackout features to limit the heat buildup caused by sunlight. Ongoing renovations help maintain the building’s structure.

Employees

Women and men receive equal pay for the same work. Professional development is a priority, including in new areas such as sustainability and reporting.

Mobility

For guests traveling to Vienna by car, a parking garage is available right next to the hotel. This makes it easy to park your car and then explore the city by subway.

Shopping and Cleaning

When purchasing supplies, the Simm’s Hotel pays attention to origin and environmental standards. The cleaning products bear the Austrian Ecolabel.

Water and Outdoor Areas

The Simm’s Hotel uses water-saving showerheads. There are no outdoor areas here that require watering.
